Fishing for Data Podcast Series

Duke Center on Law & Technology

The ‘Fishing for Data’ podcast is a 4-part series that explores the governance of fisheries data under the Magnuson-Stevens Act and related data laws and policies. The podcast aired in 2021 and was produced by a team of legal, policy, and environmental science fellows from Duke Center on Law & Tech and sponsored by Net Gains Alliance.

NGA believes in supporting constructive conversations on the sensitive but critical issue of how NMFS interprets data confidentiality. We believe that by making conversations about data sharing more common, we help create a more informed and receptive community for NMFS’ new activities revisiting its data policies. This project engaged both fisheries experts and experts from other sectors in discussions on data policy best practices, the limits and potential of new technologies, and examples of success.

Each episode includes a reference guide with links to other resources and a full transcript. The final episode was a recorded live discussion.
